Dorothy (1935)

Among children who have been given assistance by The Capper Foundation for Crippled Children during the last year, one of the most outstanding is a young girl from a Southern Kansas town, according to Miss Doris Schenck, Secretary of the Foundation. Dorothy had not walked for several years and her disability seemed so serious that the foundation hesitated to consider her at all. However, an examination was finally arranged, which revealed a chance for material improvement. Several operations have been performed by skilled specialists, and with the acquisition a few weeks ago of the braces pictured, Dorothy started for her home for the happiest Christmas she had known in a long time.

“The Capper Foundation for Crippled Children has other equally interesting and deserving cases in prospect, a few of whom will enter the hospitals soon after the first of the year,” said Miss Schenck. “Others, however, will have to wait for more funds. The expense of orthopedic cases is extremely variable, and The Capper Foundation accepts no case until sufficient funds are on hand to provide for any contingency that may arise. This insures the specialist who supervises corrective measures that his patient will not ‘disappear’ for lack of money when the job is only half done.”
